About Maria-Jose
I was born and raised in Chile and came to the United States four years ago. I completed my training as a therapist in Universidad Central de Chile in 2005 and received my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology in 2007 at Northwest University.
I have done intensive work in cultural identity and the narratives of immigration, including the study of art as a way to integrate the past and the new home.
In 2007 I founded Frame, an arts community formed by homeless women in transitional housing, seeking to empower their full potential by reconnecting with their beauty and resources to start a new life.
I use a feminist perspective and take an existential and inter-personal approach to therapy

“I have approached all of my patients with a sense of wonderment at the story that will unfold. I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story.” –Irvin Yalom
